Jungle music emerged from London's underground rave scene in the early 1990s, built on chopped and pitched breakbeats sampled from funk and soul records, heavy sub-bass, and rapid-fire rhythms running at 160–180 BPM. It evolved into drum and bass by the mid-1990s as producers like Goldie, LTJ Bukem, and Roni Size refined the sound into something more sophisticated. Both genres remain vital forces in electronic music today, with a global community of producers and DJs continuing to push the sound forward.
